On top of the World (Well not quite!)
On Tuesday 14th June 2022, Rev Mark, along with his cousin and 3 parishioners completed a climb of Slieve Donard - Northern Ireland’s highest mountain. The climb coincided with 4 members of Rev. Mark’s family who were completing the Mourne Wall Challenge (his two nephews and two cousins). The climb and challenge was in memory of the late Mrs Heather Lennox (Rev. Mark’s Mum) who passed away last year from Ovarian Cancer. She received excellent medical support from the Gynae Cancer team at Antrim Area Hospital. The fundraising effort is going towards providing facilities for ladies who find themselves on a similar journey.
On returning to the Car Park the Rector said “That has to be the most physically challenging thing I have ever done. It never crossed my mind that one day I would be standing on the top of Slieve Donard, however I am so glad that I was able to get up there and back down again. In some ways it was like my own personal pilgrimage. It was honour to climb the mountain with Teresa, Gareth, Sid and Tom. I want to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged us today. Thank you to those who sent messages, called us, prayed for us, and have donated to the fund”.
